This book pulled me in right away. I have read a lot of book with a twist at the end but this one took the cake. If you were so so on the book this twist would make you have to read the rest of the books in the series. Mira, Danny, Kylee, and Skylar all became friends when they meet during freshman orientation. Danny and Skylar were already friends just as Mira and Kylee were; both sets of friends had been friends since childhood. Right at the beginning of the book you learn that Danny and Mira are engaged and have been dating all through college. They are in a motorcycle accident on the way to a graduation party and Danny dies, Mira comes away with just some road rash and a broken leg. Mira has a great deal of trouble getting over Danny’s death. Kylee and Skylar want to help her come back from the dark place she is in. Skylar helps a great deal. But, then he and Mira have a falling out. A year passes before Skylar and Mira see each other again. Skylar has loved Mira since he first saw her; right before Danny saw her. Now that Danny is dead and some time has passed Skylar wants another chance with Mira. Will they be able to forgive each other for the things that they said or will it all be too late for them. Then comes the giant out of left field twist that changes everything. I loved the book before the twist but after I came to the conclusion I had to read all the other books in this series. I got completely sucked down the rabbit hole. All the characters in this book are so great. They have depth and feel so real. Ashley writes a fantastic story. You feel as though you are right there with them going through everything with them. I connected with the character and the story so much. I can’t wait to read the next book.I was given this book in return for an honest review.

Mirage Book 1 The Destined Series edition by Ashley Suzanne Laura Hidalgo Tiffany Fox Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Mirage by Ashley Suzanne is mostly a good book. The characters are terrific and the initial story line is huge and encompassing. I was pulled right in and did not put it down. Unfortunately, I did not have the same reaction as others to the last chapter. I actually felt undervalued by the author, as if I were not savy enough to pick up on the inconsistencies that it presented. The final chapter made every thought and action by Skylar irrelevant, and his POV became nothing short of a cruel joke. So basically, the emotional attachments that I had formed were tossed to the wind, for shock factor, I'm sure. Ultimately, the majority of the book is compelling, the characters are terrific, and the story line is addicting. Add in the final chapter, and I'm out.

Let me start by saying Ashley did a wonderful job with compelling characters and a heart gripping story! I'm not a huge fan of flashback scenes in general, but I think it worked well for this book.
This book is a love story, but I would not say it's a romance because there is not a HEA. Even as part of a series with a HEA, the individual book alone left me hanging which frustrated me. Life is too short for sad endings. (Personal opinion!)
My other thought is, the story would've been much more impactful if it was only in Mira's POV. It jumped between her and Skylar, which doesn't quite make sense at the end. How would she be in Skylar's head? And isn't this proving the timeline is real? I felt kind of laughed at by the end.
I think focusing on Mira moving through "the year" would've had a stronger impact that really crushed hearts, taking it from "this happened to a fictional character" to "this happened to Mira, whose life I'm sharing".
This book (series) is brilliant and definitely is worth the read! Ashley does fabulous work.
Mira is dealing with the loss of her fiance when she and Skylar give in into their attraction. When things get even more complicated, Mira runs away to her parents house. A year later, Mira has a job and has moved on from her grief. She hasn't seen Skylar or spoken to him since the day she left the apartment they shared, so when she runs into him at a club she's surprised to see him again.
Skylar has always been attracted to Mira, but she was his best friend's girl. When the opportunity arises for them to be together, Skylar is beyond happy that he finally has a chance at a relationship with Mira. After their night together, he looses all hope and vows to forget her. Only if it could be that easy.
So here I am, a couple of days after reading this story and I'm still not sure of what I think.
I'll break it down into parts, maybe it will be easier to understand, for me and for you.
The Characters
Mira was hard for me to like. I felt for her and what she went through. It was horrible. However, she was too stubborn and quick to assume the worst. It eventually cost her some happiness and heartache. I thought she was a tad too selfish and immature. Then just as I'm starting to get a handle on her, she showed a side of her I didn't like, especially after all I had to endure in regards to her suffering over losing Danny. It just didn't mesh. Her behavior towards the end of the book went completely against what I had come to admire about her in the beginning of the story - her love and loyalty to Danny.
Skylar was awesome. He was honest and vulnerable when it came to Mira. He made mistakes, but owned up to them. I completely understood where he was coming from when it came to his behavior after he spend the night with Mira. He loved her and she just flat out hurt him and then made a mess of her apology, reacting instead of understanding Skylar. Towards the end, I came to admire his strength and his loyalty. His behavior during that time endeared him even more to me.
The Writing
I liked that the author, Ashely Suzanne, told the story by using flashbacks and dual point of views. It helped me connect to the characters and understand where each was coming from and how deeply their emotions ran towards each other and towards Danny.
Although the story dragged in places and Mira had a tendency to ramble on about the same things again and again, I enjoyed knowing how the relationship between Mira and Danny came about and how close they had become during their time together. It was through these flashbacks that I got to know more of Mira and what kept me from thinking she was completely selfish and unworthy of Skylar.
The connection between Mira and Skylar was undeniable. Not only did they share a bond over losing Danny, but they also had developed a deep friendship way before they decided to get together. It was that easy camaraderie that led me to believe that they had a chance to work things out.
The Story
Hmmm, not much I can say about it without giving too much away so I'll just say that it was a pleasant surprise to have that twist towards the end of the story. However, it didn't make any sense to me. I'm not referring to the concept behind the story, but to the logistics behind it. How could a dual point of view take place? How can Mira's emotions change so radically?
I know, I know. I just said that I enjoyed the dual point of views and I did enjoy it as the story progressed. But once the last chapter came into play I was questioning it's viability. Can Skylar feelings, thoughts and actions carry any weight after the truth came out? Can I trust Mira's emotional stability?
I don't know. This is the reason why I am so torn. Should I go with my analytical-personality or should I just move on? I'm still undecided on that front, so for now I'll shut up about it. Hopefully, I'll decide before reading Inception.
So there you have it.
Mirage was an enjoyable read for me until the very end when it caused chaos in my over-analytical mind. But since the story up to that point was interesting and the emotions were well-portrayed, my rating of 3 stars stands. It helped too that I loved Skylar and that the chemistry between him and Mira was HOT! All in all, I liked it.

Honestly, this should have gone to the DNF pile. The characters were too immature for my preference, though admittedly I'm not a YA fan. But what earned the 1 star review was the quality of the writing. It felt choppy, the dialogue was repetitive and unnatural, and there were far too many editing errors. Add that to a weird ending, and I just didn't buy into this series.
